Late nights, mugs of coffee, and take outs are characteristics of the life of a freelancer. These days, there are freelancers everywhere you look; everyone is ready to do everything and anything from a remote location. Certain organizations in Africa – Nigeria and South Africa precisely – are embracing this mode of operations. Organizations in a view to attaining agility are employing means and strategies to make their team leaner, meaner, and more nimble.

The opening paragraph simplifies the reason we TINK freelancing is the new trend wave brewing to blow across Africa. As we currently invest in building top talents in every facet of the economy, freelancing seems be the go to source as they have a large network of fellow freelancers who are equally top talents.

So until organizations are able to bring in such quality of talent they may have to resort to freelancers. However the case, we need these freelancers to consolidate efforts and mental capacity in order to build successful companies as well – this will definitely impact the economy a lot more, but until this is done, freelancing is the new cool.

As a young chap, while growing up, my uncle used to listen to a lot of radio. He would go to bed listening to the radio, wake up still listening, have his bath while listening, and drive while listening. I never went to his office but I can bet my last Naira that he had a radio on his office desk. When mobile phones that had the capacity to carry a radio app, my uncle never took off his ear plugs but the thing is, back then I never believed you can be African and be on an African radio station, you had to have been born abroad, particularly America or London, or you must have the tongue of a thousand angels.

Now a new trend has blown over the African radio world and they have begun to embrace the mother tongue, the African accent, now people like me know that those behind the microphone live in my city. On air personalities have learnt the art of connecting to their audience by communicating with the day to day lingua. It has now become irritating and intolerable for an African presenter to come on air with a foreign accent.

People want to be able to identify and connect with the voices they have helped them get through the day, so no need to fake a personality, be yourself.

I had a terrible crush on her back in 2012 and I wrote her this poem;

“I guess you should have seen this coming

From the day you were born in the cab

And decided to live above your genes

I guess my spirit put on you a tab

Compared to you i am younger no doubt

But age is not what this is about

You are like that fresh flower that has just sprout

And that light that refuses to be put out

This feeling for you I currently describe as a crush

It’s so strong it won't go away in a rush

For you are painted on my heart with a silver brush

Which I have cherished so much

Excellence and beauty are fused in you like an ore

Your spirit so rich you can't get poor

You might ask, have you crushed on anyone prior?

It doesn't matter because I want the world to know I am crushing on Tosyn Bucknor”

She was a trend worth spotting.
