MUSICIANS ARE BEGINNING TO TAKE UP LEAD ROLES IN AFRICAN MOVIES
It always makes me happy when two separate entities are joined together in holy matrimony. Well in this case, I’m not sure how holy this matrimony is but I like the idea of a joining. Although this trend I’m about to reveal is the norm in many European countries and the Americas, but it is largely a new trend in this part of the world and it is highly welcomed.
I’m sure you must have noticed that your favourite music stars aren’t just gracing your TV screens in their music videos but have begun to unlock their hidden talent in acting. These musicians have begun to take up lead roles in African movies and they are doing a fantastic job, I must say.
Especially in Nigeria, musicians used to stay away from taking up movie roles but right now not anymore. Two block buster movies form the Nigerian movie industry a.k.a Nollywood has seen this trend to full swing. First was “The wedding party” which had Nigerian music icons Banky W and Ikechukwu grace the screens,
and second was “King of Boys” which had Ill bliss and Reminisce join the list of Nigerian actors. By the way, if you haven’t seen any of those movies you are doing yourself a total disfavor.
We TINK that in the nearest future we are going to see music artists compete with actors for roles in more African movies. This is definitely going to lead to a speedy and more healthy development in the industry.
This is sure an exciting trend to keep an eye on.
