You want to lead a long and healthy life? You want to live a life without stress, wrinkles, and stress related ailments? Then this article was written with you in mind. Mental wellness is becoming a growing concern across the continent. The Lancet Global Health report 2018 states that mental health disorders are forecasted to grow by 20% and suicide rates in Africa is expected to increase by 10%. Nobody wants this and as a result, Africans have chosen to take on self-made remedies to protect their mental health.

1. Food

The kind of food one consumes can contribute to the state of your mental wellness. This explains the trend of slow food and slow brewed drinks in many parts of the continent.

2. Yoga

At some point in my life I thought yoga wasn’t for Africans, right now, everyone is seemingly incorporating the art into their busy schedules – the battle for soundness of mind is real. As a result of this trend, shelf uptake of items such as crystals, incense, diffusers, meditation cushions, and so on have steadily increased.

3. Work life balance

No one wants to work long hours for no reason anymore. Regardless of how busy schedule can be, there has to be room for other mentally soothing activities – things you would rather do for fun.

4. Family and pets

Did you know that those who own pets are said to live longer than those who don’t? Interesting fact; everyone needs someone to cuddle up with sometimes, feel the person/pet breathe, and just lay there. Only writing this paragraph and thinking about it has taken away the stress from my muscles already.

5. Vacation

This has become an integral part of annual plans. Africans want to see the world and enjoy every single sight.
