BAKANG IS THE CAMEROONIAN TECH ENTREPRENEUR WHO CREATED AFRICA'S NETFLIX
Tonjé Bakang is the founder and president of Afrostream, the ‘Netflix of African, African-American, and Caribbean content’, a streaming service intended primarily for European and African markets. Tonjé Bakang created Afrostream to provide African and African diaspora films to its subscribers after a now obvious lack of black representation in the films and shows offered by other streaming services. Prior to its release, Afrostream already boasted 2,000 subscribers.
While it was originally launched in French-speaking European countries, the service is now available across 24 African nations—and Bakang has plans to expand to many more. Afrostream has partnered with major movie studios to distribute entertainment content and the company aims to produce original and independent films in the future.
