If you were in Nigeria back in 2016 and you did not have a “Boyz are not smiling” then you were not a cool kid enough. The 2010 hit single off the B.A.N.S album turned from just a song into a national street anthem, a reaffirmation of resilience and a determination to succeed as highlighted by the lyrics.
Terry tha Rap the iconic Nigeria Hip Hop rap artiste now known as T.R announced yesterday of a new cinematic film being produced after his life with the same title as his award winning 2010 single, “Boyz are not Smiling”. Being a huge influence for most of today’s Hip Hop artistes, T.R has two albums, two mix tapes and an EP to his name. Through this movie, he hopes to take his fans through life journey. Promising to unpack the true backstage, untold stories in the Nigerian music industry, he highlighted in a recent interview that the puesdo-docudrama will expose the intense rigour artistes go through before their big breaks.
With a great choice of Imoh Umoren as the director, we can almost bet that the movie will be more than just awesome. Though no official release date or trailer has been released, we are more than excited about the news.
A blend of an intelligent mind like Terry and an award-winning director like Imoh, there can only be a beyond greatness. Keep your eyes peeled for the movie.
