Fashion; A Ground To Create Solutions.

The fashion industry which was first developed in Europe and America is currently a globalized industry with clothing and accessories being imported and exported from different countries.

The fashion industry is identified as a creative industry where styles are birthed and reinvented. Fashion enthusiasts are flooding the internet and Instagram is identified as the top space to show case their works.

Fashion has exceeded clothing and accessories only, other elements are beginning to illuminate in the industry.

The ability to see through future happenings has led to the birth of Fashion shows, fashion runways, fashion week, fashion bloggers and fashion consultants. To some, fashion is a career and while to others, it’s a lifestyle that sprang from passion.

The fashion industry encompasses the design, manufacturing, distribution, marketing, retailing and promotion of all types of apparel (male, female and children).


Just like in other countries, Nigeria isn’t left out in the fashion space. Nigerians are known to be fashion lovers and there are several top fashion leaders who are Nigerians. Fashion and Lifestyle are mostly tied together in the blogosphere, hence a large number of Nigerian bloggers love fashion.

Fashion has grown beyond just clothing to become a lifestyle and from observation, it’s the trend that the industry will explore. Fashion enthusiasts will begin to create solutions to their own kind of fashion needs which will end up being embraced by others. A typical example is Chimamanda Adichie who some time ago launched a “Wear Nigerian Campaign” where she has decided to dress in Nigerian brands in all her public appearances (seems more like a signature). Amongst other fashion designers in Nigeria, these are some of the trendsetters : Folake Folarin-Coker, Duru Olowu, Deola Sagoe, Mudi, Frand Oshodi, Mai Atafo, etc.

Last week, BBC news spotted Ade Hassan who’s the CEO and founder of Nubian Skin. She’s a fashion enthusiast and one of the first females to sell nude underwear for different skin tone. For her, the intention was to produce nude tights to match her skin tone which blew up to becoming a business where she creates lingerie and hosiery for a range of skin tones. She’s set out to “redefine nudes” and it’s evident that people can relate with her product which she’s used to create a brand which launched in 20014. According to her, she grew from 50 to 20,000 followers in four weeks (organically) by using Instagram and Twitter to spread the word.

What story can you tell about her fashion brand and other fashion brands who are dishing creative styles? The need to create solutions to fashion needs accompanied with recognition is the future of the Fashion Industry. These solutions are celebrated and embraced worldwide by individuals with different fashion sense.
