NIGERIAN DIRECTOR, UCHE AGUH CREATES CONCEPT TRAILER FOR CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE'S AMERICANAH
Uche Aguh a young Nigerian doctor turned director based in the US, reckons a strong connection to the protagonist in this award-winning story tying this to his migration from Port-Harcourt Nigeria to the United States of America and how his experiences as a Nigerian living in Dallas, Texas has an influence as well. He released an 11-minute trailer containing four scenes under his media company, 55Media, which is gathering positive attraction from fans of the author and the book.
What is he hoping to achieve with this trailer you might ask; Although the novel's production rights have been given to Brad Pitt's production company, there are still open roles for writers and directors, which are in Uche's plans.
Synopsis of Americanah
A powerful, tender story of race and identity by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the award-winning author of Half of a Yellow Sun.
Ifemelu and Obinze are young and in love when they left military-ruled Nigeria for the West. Beautiful and self-assured Ifemelu heads for America, where despite her academic success, she is forced to grapple with what it means to be black for the first time. Quiet and thoughtful Obinze had hoped to join her, but the immigration tension of the post-9/11 America, had him landing into a dangerous, undocumented life in London. Fifteen years later, they reunite in a newly democratic Nigeria, and reignite their passion for each other and for their homeland.
