You know what let me bring you up to speed, you can thank me after you have read episode 1, 2, 3 and the end of this piece (episode 4 of our Youniverse series- the leaping frog)

Welcome back!

Now that you have read those articles, I am sure you now understand what it means live in Youniverse –sing your own song as loudly as you choose (the mindset that’s reshaping business), be super –understanding the power that shapes the future is you, the merger –if you want to be big you need others, and now the leaping frog –the power of flight. At this point I would have loved to quote a law I learnt in physics but I can’t remember it now.

You should know that businesses today are adopting the trend of merging with other businesses in order to take the leap; that is, deliver huge value to their clientele.

There’s only so much you can do on your own, the future is in partnership.

2.1 CGPA or No Work for You

EMPHASIS BEING LAID ON THE 2.1 CGPA IS RAISING CONCERNS AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE IN NIGERIA

Ok this one is a very serious matter amongst Nigerian youth. After secondary school it is expected that a young person goes on to study that dream course in the university, “you can be whatever you choose to be” is what they say until young Nigerian students write the university entrance examination known as JAMB. Then after you’ve passed, the school tells you, you can’t study what you applied for and then offers you something different. I had a friend who applied to study Geology in school and in the end was offered Forestry and Wildlife now he has graduated and he is working as a financial analyst, I’ve seen petrochemical engineers work in a consulting firms. Now this is where my argument is.

It is well known that big organizations in Nigeria lay emphasis on a 2.1 CGPA. They expect that their young employees graduate from the university with such grades otherwise they may not be offered employment, but here is the thing, an organization, say for instance, a bank is recruiting and chooses to employ an Agricultural Engineering graduate, why? Because he has a 2.1 CGPA; I dare say that emphasis should be laid on skills and eagerness to learn irrespective of CGPA otherwise many organizations would miss hiring the best minds simply because for some reason or the other they fell short of the highly required CGPA.

If an organization would hire a Theatre Arts graduate as its HR executive, then it might as well throw the certificate into the bin and develop tests and schemes to examine their recruits to ascertain whether or not they are the best fit for the job.

The trend of hiring graduates with a CGPA from disciplines very distinct from the job opening is taking over the economic landscape in Nigeria and until it changes, let me keep my 2.1 CGPA certificate very well because we need to work and make some money.

If you TINK this trend should be reviewed please comment below and if for some reason you know why this happens, we would like to know.

If you have been logged on to our page for the past couple of days you must have noticed our Youniverse series and this is the 3rd episode. You may not already know by now where this is going but by the time the last episode is released, the perfect picture would have been painted in your mind. The first episode talked about the U-Story, how in your world you sing your own song –You-Ni-Verse and how brands have taken advantage of this perspective, and the second episode talks about you being super- owning your identity, now episode 3 –the collabo.

Like a song, you must have first put the beat and theme together –Youniverse, then you put your personality into whatever it is your doing –be super, and then you move on to collaborating with others. One can only do so much by himself but with a few good men you can take the world.

This is a trend that’s being adopted everywhere, for instance, very recently Shazam joined forces with Apple, Facebook took ownership of Instagram and WhatsApp, banks in Africa are consolidating efforts, these are all in a view to deliver value and make global impact. It’s not enough to stand on stage to sing your best song (live your best life) and be amazing, you ought to make global impact.

In Africa, everyone is seemingly gunning to become their own boss; this trend is seen mainly among millennials as we constantly see the rise of entrepreneurs every now and then. This result to having small businesses here and there which add little or no value but imagine what 4 or 5 small businesses can become if only they join forces and grow together.

Like they say “no one is an island”, we are citizens of the world.

Even smaller businesses have adopted this global perspective, which is why nearly every business has a digital presence through social media and web pages.

Operation Velvet Underway; No Soft Touch Here

THE LAGOS STATE POLICE HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE EXTRA MEASURES TO RESTORE SANITY TO LAGOS ROADS

I’m just sitting in front of my keyboard and laughing; wonders shall never end in Nigeria. Lagosians are no longer driving their cars and they have quickly opted to ride the bus or patronize Uber and Taxify. No one wants to risk spending useful man hours sitting behind a police counter. Little wonder why the roads were so free when I was driving to work today. Normally I’d spend at least 120 minutes on the road to get to my office, no thanks to the heavy traffic every morning but today it took me 23 minutes, you can imagine how excited I was. It was smooth sailing all the way and here is why.

So the police in conjunction with agencies such as Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) have enforced an Operation Restore Sanity to Lagos Roads a.k.a. Operation Velvet in a view to tackle the perennial gridlock in the commercial capital of Nigeria, Lagos state. They have realized that a large number of motorists in the Lagos do not obey traffic rules and do not have the basic requirements to ply the roads and as such they have chosen to dealing commuters a hard card.

Starting today, if you are pulled over and found without requirements such as valid driver’s license, your vehicle documents, fire extinguisher, jack, wheel spanner and caution sign, among others, you will be arraigned before mobile courts which have been set up around the city for this purpose, and you stand the risk of having your vehicle impounded or worst case scenario, you’ll be arrested.

A lot of people have come forth to say that although this is a good initiative but it is ill-timed as they should have given motorists time to ensure that all requirements are in order and they added that it is a plot from the state government to garner money for the yuletide.

I love social media; there’s always something interesting that comes in every now and then. This is why I actually love to update my apps every single time there is a pop up. We cool like that.

And to demonstrate how interesting social media has become, WhatsApp, the leading chat engine, currently valued at over $442.1 billion and with over 1.5 billion users as of 2017 has now decided to include a couple more features.

According to a report released by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has decided to include silent mode and vacation mode to the app. According to the revelation Silent Mode is already active on all WhatsApp accounts. With this feature enabled you no longer see how many muted messages you have received whenever you enter the app. However, Vacation Mode is still in the works and will work with archived chats that have also been muted. Currently, when you archive or mute a chat on WhatsApp, you’ll still see the chats when you go back into the app. With Vacation Mode, your archived chats that are muted will remain invisible. This means that, soon, the only time you’ll see your archived conversations is when you actually want to.

So ladies you can now actually really truly mute that stalker that just won’t quit bugging you.

Furthermore, WABetaInfo also hints that WhatsApp is working on developing a Linked Accounts option for Business and standard users; this means that soon you will be able to integrate other social media platforms such as Instagram to your account. How great is that? So turn on your notification because soon you’ll be required to update your app once again.
